friday fun #16... i'm back!

Coming from my favorite, Friday's Feast.

Appetizer
What is your favorite carnival/amusement park ride? I love roller coasters and the best one I've ridden so far has been Batman at Six Flags St. Louis.

Soup
How do you react in uncomfortable social situations? I stutter and blush, then try to exit as soon as possible.

Salad
On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being highest, how much do you enjoy discussing deep, philosophical topics? Mmm... not so much - I'd say a 4.

Main Course
Did you get a flu shot this year? If not, do you plan to? No, I never get one. They're for the elderly and children.

Dessert
Approximately how many hours per week do you spend watching television? Eh... Way too many. I'd say 15-20.

Have a great weekend!!!

new restuarant... suki

I haven't had food from a decent new place in awhile, so I thought I'd let my readers know about a new joint that I've been waiting to open for 3 months now. It's called Suki, and it's at the old Tippins at 71st and Memorial.
I had no expectations about Suki because I had no idea what kind of food it would be. The sign outside only said "Unique Dining" so it left a little to the imagination. S and I went there last night around 9:30. We would've arrived sooner but we were finishing off a free pitcher of beer. There were few diners in the place but they said it was no problem we were coming in 30 minutes before close.
When we walked in, it was nice - I can't compare it to Tippins because I never ate there but it was clean and the aesthetics were good. The tables were all marble with hot pots (shobu shobu) in the middle and there were big, comfy chairs. Our waiter was a little goofy but he charmed us after his nerves wore off. We both ordered the norm - Crown & Diet (me) and Crown & Sprite (S). Got our drinks and started checking out the menu. It was a little bit confusing, things weren't really specified, like whether each meal was per person or for two people. There is a complimentary section that details what you get with each dinner. We finally decided to split a meal from the four choices: A, B, C, or D and we got an extra appetizer set up.

The complimentary section included:
  • Asian lettuce cup - a 2-bite piece of Romaine with sticky rice, enoki mushrooms, and black sesame seeds, served with shoyu and ginger.
  • Mixed green salad - fresh greens, red and yellow bell pepper, onion, and a sweet dressing.
  • Soup of the Day - we choose the Shrimp Bisque, there was also a White Miso.
  • Kimchi - homemade by the owner, fermented cabbage leaves with carrots and garlic.
  • Japanese pickles - self explanatory.
  • Country-style Jjul or handmade noodles. We choose the Jjul - a traditional Korean rice porridge.
  • Chef's selection of ice cream - our serving was coconut.
S and I chose option B ($26) for our meal, which included:
  • 4 oz. of top sirloin
  • 3 saltwater prawns
  • 2 Georgia banks scallops
  • 4 Windsor Bay mussels
  • 2 oz. big eye tuna
  • seasonal vegetables - eggplant, broccoli, 3 kinds of mushrooms, zucchini, daikon, squash, and others
You also get to choose three different kinds of dipping sauces. I chose the wasabi, chili, and sesame sauces. I loved the wasabi and chili sauces - both were super spicy but very good. I believe our served goofed up and gave us plain soy sauce instead of the sesame sauce because that's what it tasted like, but was a good mixture with the other two.

Okay, now on to what I thought of the meal. The lettuce cup was small and rather bland. The green salad was nice and crisp but needed a touch more of the dressing, which reminded me of honey mustard and not that boring ginger crap you get at other places. The shrimp bisque was good, pureed a bit too much, and kind of tasted like tortilla chips. The kimchi was awesome, being my first experience with it, I really loved it. It was spicy and tangy, two things I love. I would definitely eat it again. The Japanese pickles tasted just like the apple cider pickles I made this past summer, nice and sweet.

The server brought out vegetable broth to pre-heat while we were eating our appetizers. It quickly started to boil and smelled great. He then brought out the plate of veggies and started cooking them in front of us. He gave us both equal servings and we started chowing down. After a few minutes, the server came back with a plate of thinly sliced beef. He placed the beef in the pot and cooked it very quickly, in less than a minute. He dished it up for us and we started dipping in the yummy sauces. The beef was nice and tender, very lean and tasty. After that was finished, the server came back to clean the fat off the top of the hot pot. He ladled that off and left only to return with a large plate of seafood. When I say large, I'm talking about the seafood - not the plate. All I can say is that that was definitely my favorite part. First he dipped the beautiful, bright red tuna in the pots. He turned it for a few seconds and dropped a piece on each of our plates. It was awesome - barely cooked and so fresh. Then he put the prawns and mussels in the pots. They quickly started cooking too. After about a minute he dropped the huge scallops into the pot and let them cook for a minute. He started scoping the gigantic seafood onto our plates after the mussels popped open. I'm not even kidding - this seafood was probably the largest I've ever had on a plate. The prawns were as big as three of my thumbs and the scallops were the size of golf balls. The mussels were okay, I'm not the biggest fan, but they were okay. The last part of the broth left in the hot pot was used to make the Jjul, the Korean porridge. It was very flavorful from all of the food being cooked in it. I was so full by this point, I only had room to take a couple of bites because I had to save a teeny bit of room for the coconut ice cream, which was also fantastic.

I do not see how one person could have eaten that whole meal. It was a ton of food! My Toddles wouldn't have let me down, he would have been in heaven. S and I shared the meal for one and it was way more than enough. I really enjoyed the entire meal, I felt bad that were were there 1 1/2 hours past closing time but I think they'd expect that since it is always going to take that long to cook a meal at the table. The entire staff was friendly and attentive. All in all, we spent $50 for a meal that left us both very happy and full, and we got a new dining experience! I'll go back...

accomplishment.

Woohoo! The big weekend is over and we got so much finished. Here's the play by play:

Wednesday - I finished packing. I got this OCD thing going for this move and was super organized throughout the entire move. Everything was boxed, labeled, and ready to go when T arrived that night.
Thursday - Thanksgiving. We spent the day in OKC with my fam, had dinner, and were home by 8:00. It was our only scheduled day off for the whole weekend. Dinner was nice, my family was being a little odd but it was still a nice holiday.
Friday - Move my room. Toddles and I got up at a decent time and prepared for the day. I was hyper, crazy lady when I woke up from all of the excitement. T wasn't really ready for all that until I got him his fav McD's breakfast. We moved all of my room into his Dad's house in two trips. His stepmom's family was there so they helped us unload some of the stuff. We got everything put together and sleepable by the time dinner was ready at 4:00. We stuffed our faces and played poker that night. We also made it to Target to get some more things for my room.
Saturday - Ugh... We're tired by this day. We got around and made it to the old house to move all of my boxes. It was cold and we both wanted to be cozied up in bed. We got everything loaded into two cars and made it to the storage unit in no time. Unloaded and it was time to go to his brother's for another family meal. We grabbed some pizza and watched the OU/OSU game. After that it was time to hang with all of our friends. We drank our aches and pains away and called it a night after a few too many drinks.
Sunday - Oops. T has a nasty hangover. I feel fine but I do NOT want to get out of bed. We wake up late and our helper is already calling. I tell him we need another hour. Thank God he's such a nice guy. We meet up at the house, move the big stuff - W/D, fridge, couch, etc to storage. Get done. Go eat. Go sleep. We were so tired that we slept for 3 hours yesterday. I think it all caught up with us.
Now all I have to do is clean out the house and I'm finished. It feels so good to have had such a stress-free move. T said it's because I rock and had everything ready to go. I couldn't agree more.
I've been happier this past week than I have in a long time. I truly believe it's because I got rid of all the bad shit in my life and I am preparing for a fresh start with my Beloved. I feel clean, refreshed, and organized for once. It is amazing!

Oh, the wedding countdown is 10 months, 29 days. Yikes!

Hope everyone had a really nice Thanksgiving. Get any shopping done?

turkey day...

I want to wish everyone a safe and happy Thanksgiving!

for real time... i'm on break

I'm feeling better, finally - except I think my body hates me because I've been working it to death getting ready for this silly garage sale. Every one of my muscles are screaming "we need a massage!" and they might get one if we make enough money tomorrow.

So yes, I'll be on break for the next week. It's just too much for me right now. Garage sale tomorrow, unloading the rest of the junk on Sunday, packing Monday - Wednesday, Thanksgiving on Thursday and Friday, moving the rest of the weekend. Yikes, huh?!?!? I must remember - it's all for a great reason.

So, I hope everyone has a super duper happy Thanksgiving next week, enjoy the time off!

no wonder i'm grumpy...

(explanation at the end...)
I continued my madness through the weekend. Poor, poor Toddles dealt with me so nicely.

Friday was my friend S's birthday. He was being a total prick the whole night because he thinks he can sometimes and it being his bday made it even worse. T and I went home early because we had a busy day planned for Saturday and we were not in the mood for S's crap.

I had to get up earlyish the next day for a baby shower for my friend Court. It was nice, not short enough, but nice for one of those shower things. Her MIL hooked her up! I've never seen so much pink in all my life! I looked super cute for the shower because this girl T used to date was there. Hot red dress and fun shoes and hair, plus the sizable engagement ring = delish! I told my future MIL that I would give up my future baby shower if I never have to go to another again. She didn't go for that too well. Baby showers suck sooooo bad.

T and I had a dinner date later that night. It was wonderful and romantic. We had some great Italian food and wine, and it was super cozy. After that we went to check on BFF and her pneumonia, stole her hubby for a bit for beer and football, and went out. I started feeling bad at some point in the night. Ciggies were killing me and I begged T to take me home. He really didn't want to but I finally managed to get him home.

I woke up Sunday and felt like someone had socked me in the chest. I couldn't breath and the first thought in my head is pneumonia since BFF has had it so bad. I toughed it out for awhile until the coughing became unbearable. I took a shower and the steam helped but I still ended up going to the doctor. $68 later I'm on an inhaler, crazy antibiotics, and I've got bronchitis and some pneumonia. Yay me. No wonder I've been totally weak and tired and bitchy. My wonderful fiance took care of me and got a ton of stuff done since I'm having a garage sale this weekend. I'm so lucky.

So, I'm actually working today. I would rather be in bed but there's really no point since I'd end up getting bored and would work on the crap for the garage sale. Thank goodness for cough drops, hot tea, and the inhaler. Bosslady doesn't even know I'm sick yet.

Anyway, that's my weekend. Stay tuned for more madness because the next two weeks are c-razy. I might've found a home for Pedro but more on that later. I'm ready for lunch.

friday fun #15

I know, language. Whatever. It's been a heck of a week. I've been battling snot and sinuses for two weeks. I just found out my BFF has severe pneumonia. I've got a week to go through my entire house for my gigantic garage sale. I'm moving in 16 days. Plus I have to find a storage, go to two photographer appointments, do Thanksgiving, pack, and try to stay sane. Yes, I know, I'm grumpy today - sorry. Good thing is my better half is coming home and that makes me happy.

ETA: I forgot about my LEAST favorite part of this week. I have to find Pedro a home. Big time freakin bummer dude. I just listed him on Craigslist - I'm not sure how this is going to work out. If I cannot find a suitable home for him, he's going to one of my brothers - they can't tell me no.

Okay, on to the fun part of this post.

What do we want to do today? Probably some Friday's Feast because they're my favorite.

Appetizer
Which snack do you like to get when you go to the movies? Good ole buttery popcorn and a giant pop. And lots of napkins.

Soup
What year did you start using the internet? Hmm... It wasn't called the internet, it was CompuServe and it was 1992 I believe. I ran up a $70 bill in a few weeks talking to some dude in Australia on a lovely blue DOS-ish screen.

Salad
What is your first name in Pig Latin? Aratay - not bad for a Caucasian girl. (Here’s how to speak it if you don’t already know!)

Main Course
Name something you are picky about. Ohhh, lots of things. My most particular thing is the way things lie on the coffee table. They have to be straight and I mean really straight. And stuff doesn't go on the coffee table. No keys, hats, socks, NOTHING but what I've placed there.

Dessert
Fill in the blanks: I had to go to Babies R Hell yesterday and I am going to a new bar for lunch today.

i lied, i'm back. friday fun #14...

I couldn't stay away that long, things got a little better for now so I think it's safe to be on the computer at work without BB firing me. This week's fun from Friday's Feast.

Appetizer
How much money do you plan to spend this upcoming holiday season? Not as much as I have in the past, which has been most of my Christmas bonus and that's an easy grand. Everyone is getting hand painted coffee mugs this year, LOL.

Soup
What was the last television show you watched, and was it good? I watched Grey's Anatomy last night, it was a decent epi. This season isn't nearly as good as the last two.

Salad
If you had to paint the walls of your living room tomorrow, what color would you choose? Bright green. Green makes me happy, hence the new color of my blog.

Main Course
Name something clever or practical you have thought of that should be invented, but hasn’t yet. I can't tell - then my readers will steal it and make millions and I'll be screwed.

Dessert
List 3 things you would like to receive as gifts this upcoming holiday season. Cookbooks, an 8 mm camera, and cotton henleys. I know, a little random.

Have a great weekend!

hey...

I just wanted to pop in and say hello. I'm taking a mini-break from blogging because work and home are both absofuckinglutely chaotic right now and I'm trying to get some stuff figured out.

Hope everyone had a safe and happy Halloween! Visit my links or something until I get back!
